Picture This! MeetUp Photo Shoot < click

We had a good photo shoot Saturday night along the Seawall on the Portsmouth side of the Elizabeth River. The photo above is one of the first I downloaded. More to follow. Rain was predicted, but held off long enough for us to get in an hour's worth of shooting. The Norfolk skyline is illuminated from Thanksgiving to New Years' Day and provides fodder for many different camera settings. I found a setting of 20 > 30 sec. @ f22 and an iso of 100 yeilded some pretty good images. This scene has no light in the sky or the foreground, so it's kind of tricky. Experimentation is a must and I have a whole month to go back and get that perfect picture.

Photo Community Challenge - December 4

The next photo is after a few edits with Paint Shop Pro of the original grab shot below. I may add text later and use it for some cards. I may even lose the floating drydock in the background. Since this is my first photo of the Christmas season, I'm sure there will be more ( and hopefully better ) images in my gallery soon.

Grand Illumination

Tonight is the night for the Norfolk Skyline & Downtown Grand Illumination and Christmas Parade. They are expecting more than 100,000 spectators. If it's like it is now ( 0500 ), 30 degrees and a 26 mph wind, I think I'll just stay at home and watch it on the tee vee. Those poor people in the bands and the balloon handlers and the majorettes in those short skirts and skimpy . . . hmmm. On second thought, maybe if I bundle up real good . . .

Dead AOL Links

The links in my blog that direct you to the old AOL Journal don't work anymore. AOL dumped all my photos in the swamp. I am working to restore them at several different online galleries, including Picasa, Flickr, Yuku, Kodak and Webshots. I'll post an update when I get a few started.

btw, the image above was shot at iso 200, 15 sec. @ f22. Illumination was with a Mini Maglite with a paper towel over the 3-LED head.
